Majesty in the Small Things

Majesty in the Small Things

In 2010 my son and I took a trip. I was not in so great shape. He was barely 18 and in great shape. We were on a mountain overlooking Santa Fe. He went ahead excited to see what he could see, and I sat down, back against a tree and looked upon the small things. I couldn't have gone another step at that point I was hurting and worn out.

The path he took led him to a grand vista overlooking Sante Fe. He came back all excited and told me how far it seemed he could see, of the city below and all the wonderful things the life long view of a mountain top afforded him. With my back against a tree, suffering a lot of pain, the forest left me with little to view but these tiny flowers. Both of us were able to enjoy what we saw.

Sometimes circumstances in life have kept me from going where I want to go. I try hard not to be angry at my disability and how it causes me pain and mobility issues. I don't always succeed. I would have loved so much to be with my son on that vista overlooking Santa Fe. Had I focused on my bitterness, I might have missed this flower.

To date, 8 years later, with thousands of photos of wildflowers, this is still my favorite. The trick it seems is to look around where you are and find what is amazing in your present circumstances. Honestly, I fail more than I succeed but being aware that what you focus on is a choice. I hope you enjoy this image.
