Flutter Bugs Galore

Flutter Bugs Galore

One of the things I miss about my home town of Wichita Falls is RiverBend Nature Center and their butterfly house. I would spend hours there just watching and occasionally when the shot was right photographing the "flutterbugs" as my son once called them.

Butterflies are such a metaphor for so much of what we go through as humans. They start off without their beauty and have to go through a crazy transformation process. I am told that when they are in their chrysalises (someone pointed out moths have cacoons while butterflies have chrysalises) their entire body is liquified and reconstructed. That doesn't sound fun to me at all. Do you think when they are crawling around that they have any sense of the glory of flight or the beauty they will become? It seems so ofter, the people who are the richest in character are the ones who have gone through the hardest of times.
